At Simply Smile Dental Hygiene Spa we like to incorporate a spa-like atmosphere as part of your preventative oral health care. The massaging dental chairs gently release tension while our team of dental hygienists complete your treatment. The patient's interest is our focus and our goal is to make you feel comfortable and at ease during treatment.
Established in 2011, we staff independently practicing hygienists who are able to charge 20-40% less, compared to the Ontario Dental Association suggested fee guide, for the exact same services offered at your dentist's office. When patients go to see their dentist for hygiene care, a hygienist is likely to perform the scaling and polishing, just like in our spa. Unfortunately, the difference in the cost is usually set from the dental fee guide.
Going to get your dental cleanings is going to be something you enjoy more and more from now on. We provide a more relaxing and rejuvenating experience while we take care of your oral health. Sit back in our massaging chairs. Put on you plush slippers. We will take care of the rest.
The hygienist will start by reviewing your medical history with you to make sure there are no medical conditions that could influence your treatment. The next step is a head and neck assessment, followed by your tongue, gums, teeth and other areas of your mouth. Any areas of concern will then be referred to your dentist or physician.
The hygienist begins by removing plaque and calculus build-up. This can be done using hand instruments or a vibrating ultrasonic instrument.
Following the scaling, some of your teeth are polished to remove any remaining stains as needed. This is done with polishing paste and a polishing cup.
Fluoride is used to strengthen teeth and can decrease the cause of demineralization of the hard tooth enamel. There are also many other agents that can be used to desensitize them.
Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a non-invasive, clinically applied treatment that has been used as an interim therapy for managing active coronal and root caries and reducing dentinal hypersensitivity. In 2017, SDF was approved by Health Canada as a natural health product and anticaries agent for children 3 years or older and adults.(Effectiveness, safety, and acceptance of silver diamine fluoride therapy and its implications for dental hygiene practice: Position paper and statement from the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association)

Mouth-guards or sports-guards are a protective piece of equipment for your mouth. This resilient plastic guard can be used for many different kinds of sports, such as football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, skateboarding, gymnastics, biking; or any activity that might result in an injury to the mouth. The hygienist will take impressions of your teeth; and in about a week you can pick up your custom fitted mouth-guard.

Sealants are a resin material that fills deep grooves on the biting surface of the premolar and molar teeth. This will help lower the chance of the teeth getting decay. This preventative measure isn't for everyone; ask the hygienist if this treatment is right for you.
